So why not have a little fun this first week on January with an NPC generator table. This table is designed to quickly allow you to grab a name, establish what drives your NPC and what their hook is if they need one. You can use one column or all of the columns to generate your weird NPC. You might even use this for character names or to give a character a strange mannerism covered in the D100 Habits and Quirks column.
This table is not meant to be sensible and you can interpret the hooks and quirks how you like, or ignore them all together. The names are English sounding from no particular time period and the genders randomized. The habits or quirks give your NPC an identifiable extra dimension. The hooks are for if your players have left you blowing in the wind in need of a quick encounter or funny conversation to keep the game rolling.
Either go with the one roll and have one of the 100 NPCs below or roll a D100 for each column to generate a random NPC e.g. D100 x 5 = 5, 10, 45, 72, 3
